Azerbaijani FM discusses issue of return of IDPs with UN High Commissioner

On March 11, 2022, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Filippo Grandi, Commissioner of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on the sidelines of his working visit to the Republic of Turkiye, the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed.

An exchange of views has been conducted on prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and humanitarian issues on the agenda at the meeting.

At the same time, the issue of the return of IDPs to their homes has also been discussed in accordance with November 10, 2020 statement.

Noting Azerbaijan attaches importance to cooperation with UNHCR, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has informed the opposite side about reconstruction and renovation works conducted in liberated territories and measures on return of IDPs to the territories.

Filippo Grandi has expressed gratitude for comprehensive information and noted that Azerbaijan’s works in this direction are estimable.

The sides have expressed mutual interest in the continuation of cooperation for provision of the safe return of IDPs to their native lands.
