Stage director of Ganja State Drama Theatre, People's Artist of Azerbaijan Vagif Sharifov has passed away.
Several days ago, he was hospitalized due to serious health problems. Despite the doctors' efforts, it was impossible to save his life.
It is noteworthy that Vagif Sharifov was born on August 12, 1943, in Ganja. In the 1960s, he started working at the theatre. In 1967, he graduated from Azerbaijan State Institute of Art in the Faculty of Direction. In 1967-1974, he worked as a stage director at Ganja State Drama Theatre, in 1974-1977, he worked as the chief stage director at Sumgayit State Drama Theatre, in 1977-1981 - as the chief stage director at Aghdam State Drama Theatre, in 1981-1984 - as a director at Ganja State Drama Theatre, from 1984 till 1998, he worked as a stage director and artistic director at the same theatre.
In total, he gave life to more than 120 plays, including Huseyn Javid's "Maral", Jafar Jabbarli's "Almaz", "Yashar", A. Baranga's "Public opinion", Y. Salovich's "Strange beggar", Anar's "The summer days of the city", Elchin's "Murderer", Suleyman Sani Akhundov's "Love and revenge", Ismayil Shikhli's "Turbulent Kura", Nushaba Mammadli's "I want to forget", Sahib Ibrahimli's "Sadig's wedding" and other plays.
In 1992, he was awarded the title of Honorable art figure and in 2014 - the title of People's Artist.
