First Secretary of Azerbaijan Writers Union, People's Poet Fikrat Goja has died at the age of 85, Azerbaijan Writers Union has informed.

It is noteworthy that Fikrat Goja was born on August 25, 1935, in Agdash region's Kotanarkh village. In 1964, he graduated from the Literature Institute named after Maxim Gorky in Moscow.

His works had been published since 1956. He worked at the Azerbaijan Radio and Television Broadcasting Committee, in the "Azerbaijani youth" newspaper, "Azerbaijan" journal; he was the secretary for international relations of Azerbaijan Writers Union. Since 1987, he had been the editor-in-chief of the "Gobustan" collection. He had been the first secretary of Azerbaijan Writers Union since 1998. 

The poems "Those who passed through fire", "The human level", "Ordinary realities" he wrote in the 1990s talk about the freedom struggle going on in Azerbaijan.
