President Ilham Aliyev opens Ajdarbay Mosque in Baku after major overhaul

President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva attended the ceremony of putting “Ajdarbey” mosque after capital reconstruction.

Chairman of the Caucasian Muslim Office Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh the head of state informed about the work conducted in the mosque. The head of state viewed photo stands reflecting the previous and present look of the mosque. Taking historical importance of the mosque, its original look has been preserved. President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva greeted the members of the Supreme Religious Council of the Caucasus Nations……President Ilham Aliyev was told that some 3,000 people can pray at the same time in the mosque after repairs and reconstruction. There’s a special area for praying in the mosque’s courtyard. The walls and columns have inscriptions from ayats of the Guran. President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the tomb of a benefactor Haji Ajdar Bey is located at the entrance to the Mosque. President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva saw the interior of the mosque, decorated with Oriental ornaments and inscriptions from Holy Guran. The mosque has a modern air ventilation system with floors heated automatically. After inspecting the conditions created in the mosque, the Head of State met with the members of the Supreme Religious Council of the Caucasus Nations. The head of state talked of the actions taken in the country to preserve religious and moral values. He said all religious temples are rebuilt, repaired and reconstructed. Besides, reconstruction of sanctuaries belonging to other religions is also kept in the focus. This once again strengthens tolerant environment in Azerbaijan. Chairman of the Caucasian Muslim Office Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh recalled services of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in preservation of religious and spiritual values, adding President Ilham Aliyev’s activity in this field was welcomed not only in our country, but also across the globe. Mufti of Adygei Republic and Krasnodar oblast of Russia Yemij Nurbiy, Chief of Tatarstan presidential administration’s office for cooperation with religious organizations Marat Gatin, authorized representative of the Supreme Religious Council of the Caucasus Nations in Moscow Shafig Psikhachev and mufti of the North Ossetia-Alania republic Hajimurad Gatsalov delivered a speech at the meeting. They thanked President Ilham Aliyev for preserving religious and spiritual values in Azerbaijan. Rector of Baku Islam University Haji Sabir Hasanli read an address on behalf of the members of Supreme Religious Council of the Caucasus Nations. The ceremony dedicated to opening of Ajdarbey mosque began with citing various an ayat from the Koran. Making opening remarks, President Ilham Aliyev called opening of the mosque after repairs an outstanding event. Touching on construction and reconstruction of temples in the country, President Ilham Aliyev mentioned construction of Bibiheybet mosque on the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in 1998 and large-scale reconstruction works in Taza pir mosque at state expenses in 2009. President said there are some 2 thousand mosques in the country describing it as importance given to freedom of religion and conscience in Azerbaijan. President Ilham Aliyev stressed the importance of international events held in Azerbaijan recently to stop dirty propaganda against Islam and to broaden interfaith dialogue. The head of state also touched on tolerance reigning in the country. President Ilham Aliyev stressed said that in Azerbaijan, marking the 20th anniversary of independence, along with economic and social issues, public situation was on top level. Mufti of the Republic of Chechnya of the Russian Federation, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Religious Council of the Caucasus Nations Soltan Mirzeyev thanked President Ilham Aliyev and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva care and attention to national and religious values. He praised reconstruction pf religious temples, adding Azerbaijan was a model for other countries in terms of tolerance. A letter of congratulation from President of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation Rustam Minikhanov’s letter of congratulation on the occasion of inauguration of “Ajdarbey mosque” was read off. Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office Allahshukur Pashazade one again thanked President Ilham Aliyev for his services to preserve religious and spiritual values in the country. Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade presented Holy Quran to the Azerbaijani President.
