The Milli Mejlis has held next plenary meeting. The parliament has adopted a constitutional draft law on maintenance of ex-president and his family members in the first reading.

Making a keynote speech Speaker of the Parliament Ogtay Asadov offered his condolences to the fraternal Turkish people on the earthquake that hit Van city. Parliamentarians observed a minute’s silence for the victims of the natural disaster. Further, the Speaker underlined the next important event in Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. He congratulated our people and the President on Azerbaijan’s being elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. During the discussions, MPs spoke about Azerbaijan’s diplomacy, successful foreign policy pursued by the head of state and that all this strengthens Azerbaijan’s position in the international arena. The 1st issue on the agenda of the meeting was the constitutional draft law on maintenance of ex-president and his family members. Ali Huseynli, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy & State Structure gave information of the draft law. Parliamentarians noted that the constitutional draft law was designed as part of the political reforms carried out in the country. MPs made some proposals to be taken into account in the next hearings. After the discussions, the draft law was put to vote in the 1st reading and was passed. In the second part of the day annexes and amendments were made to a number of other draft laws and legal acts.
