President of the Czech Republic V.Klaus has come on an official visit to Azerbaijan

As was informed earlier, President of the Czech Republic Vatslav Klaus has come on an official visit to Azerbaijan. On May 17th, President of the Czech Republic Václav Klaus was given an official welcome to Azerbaijan. A guard of honor was lined up for the Czech President at the square outside the presidential palace. President of Czechia Václav Klaus and his spouse Livia Klausová were welcomed by Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev. Chief of the guard of honor reported to the Czech President . The national anthems of Czechia and Azerbaijan were performed. The Presidents inspected the ceremonial Guard of Honor.  Azerbaijani state and government officials were introduced to Václav Klaus, while members of the Czech delegation to President Ilham Aliyev. The Presidents and first lady of Czechia posed for photographs.

Then, Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Václav Klaus met in private. Successful development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Czechia in political, economic, energy and other spheres was stressed during the meeting. The presidents said there was good potential to expand bilateral relations even more. They also underlined the importance of Azerbaijan- Czechia relations within the framework of the European Union. The presidents also exchanged views on bilateral, regional and international issues. The vis-à-vis meeting was then continued a broader format. After the talks in presence of delegations was over, a ceremony of signing of Azerbaijan-Czech documents took place. Ramiz Hasanov, Chairman of Azerbaijan`s State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patents and Mr. Milan Holeček, President of Czech office for Standards, Metrology and Testing signed a memorandum of understanding between Azerbaijan`s State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patents and Czech office for Standards, Metrology and Testing on cooperation in the sphere of standardization, metrology and conformity assessment”. Azerbaijani ambassador to the Czech Republic Tahir Tagizade and Czech ambassador to Azerbaijan Radek Matula signed an agreement between on exchange and mutual protection of classified information. Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Czech Republic Tahir Tagizade and Czech ambassador to Azerbaijan Radek Matula signed an agreement for promotion and reciprocal protection of investments. Following the ceremony of signing of Azerbaijan-Czech documents, Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Václav Klaus of the Czech Republic made statements for media. Saying there were good bilateral relations and perfect understanding between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic in all spheres, President Ilham Aliyev said these relations were developing successfully. Describing the visit by the President of the Czech Republic as an indicator of expanding political dialogue, creating good opportunities for development of relations in other fields as well, President Aliyev highlighted the role of the Azerbaijan-Czechia business forum in Baku. Touching on regional dimension of the relations between the two countries, the head of state thanked Czechia for support given to EU-Azerbaijan partnership, and mentioned Azerbaijan’s participation in the Eastern Partnership program. President Ilham Aliyev also talked of energy cooperation with the Czech Republci and EU as a whole. Noting that regional issues, including regional cooperation and security had also been discussed, the Azerbaijani President said he had briefed the Czech President on the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Daghligh Garabagh conflict and the process of talks. He added that Armenia kept on ignoring the resolutions and decisions of international organizations on unconditional withdrawal from and liberation of occupied lands of Azerbaijan. Describing the relations between Azerbaijan and Czechia as positive, President Ilham Aliyev expressed assurance that President Klaus’ visit and its outcomes would promote partnership and friendship even more.  President of the Czech Republic Václav Klaus, expressing thanks for the invitation, shared his counterpart’s words concerning the good level of relations between the two countries. He said these relations were friendly and efficient and that could be felt in the discussions held. Václav Klaus noted that Czechia was interested in expanding the relations with Azerbaijan in all fields, including in political, economic and cultural ones. The Czech President one of the aims of his visit was to get to know Azerbaijan, its capital Baku and regions better. Saying he was aware of the recent achievements of Azerbaijan, he said they would like to make at least a small contribution to settlement of the conflict with Armenia over the Daghligh Garabagh region of Azerbaijan. Saying development of Czechia-Azerbaijan relations was not the only thing they wanted, the Czech leader noted that the EU’s Eastern Partnership program was also attached special attention. “We are looking forward for the Eastern Partnership Summit in Warsaw late this year. I hope this event will strengthen EU-Azerbaijan relations even more”, President Klaus said, adding they we interested in the relations between the two countries as well as Europe-Azerbaijan ties.    

Afterwards, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Václav Klaus of Czechia joined Azerbaijan-Czechia Forum in Baku.  Speaking at the forum President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the importance of the meetings and talks held during Czech President Václav Klaus’ official visit in terms of development of the relations between the two countries. The head of state expressed assurance the outcomes of this business forum would also be successful. The head of state said the Czech business people would have a chance to get information about Azerbaijan’s economy. Saying private sector made up 80% of the Azerbaijani economy, President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the country’s economic development and favorable investment climes created in the country with 10 billion of investments made since Azerbaijan regained independence. Noting that the country was not affected by the global recession, President Ilham Aliyev mentioned actions taken to ensure good security in the country. The head of state provided some economic indicators and figures reflecting Azerbaijan’s economic development. He expressed assurance that the Czech President’s current visit would give a strong impetus to development of the relations between the two countries. Expressing delight with his first ever visit to Azerbaijan, Czech President Václav Klaus said he was sure the meetings and talks held would place an outstanding role in development of bilateral relations between the two countries. He highlighted the importance of the documents signed during the visit, adding they would give an impulse to development of relations.  The Czech President said there were no problems for all round development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Czechia. He also shared his impressions over the economic growth and positive changes he had witnessed in Azerbaijan. Václav Klaus underlined the importance of the Azerbaijan-Czechia business forum in further expansion of economic ties between the two countries. The Czech President extended his thanks to the Azerbaijani leader for hospitality.        

After the forum was over, President Ilham Aliyev and the Czech leader toured the Seafront Park where the Baku Business Center is located. Vatslav Klaus, who watched the view of the capital, was briefed on the reconstruction and building actions implemented in Azerbaijan’s capital.

As part of his official visit to Azerbaijan, President of the Czech Republic Václav Klaus along with his spouse visited the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev informed the guests that the foundation was established for studying National Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev’s rich heritage and passing his state building ideas to next generations. President Ilham Aliyev informed the guests about the objectives of the foundation and the photos and exhibits collected in the rich exposition reflecting life and activity of the great leader. Thanks to the efforts of this extraordinary, prominent political figure the basis of the change in the socio-political, social-economic and scientific-cultural life was laid in Azerbaijan. He managed to attract the world community’s attention to Azerbaijan by creating political stability and constant restructuring in the country. Great leader Heydar Aliyev created corresponding environment for economic welfare, socio-cultural development and creating civil society. The Czech President was introduced to rich materials reflecting various moments of phenomenal personality Heydar Aliyev’s life and creating a complete idea about a vast period of Azerbaijan’s history. Having toured the foundation, the Czech President left notes in the guest book. The guest of honor was then presented a keepsake.

Later in the evening, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev hosted an official reception in honor of President of the Czech Republic Václav Klaus and his spouse Livia Klausova. Both presidents made a speech at the reception.
