Chairman of Caucasus Muslims Office: Establishing lasting peace in Afghanistan is vital for stability and development in the region

“Establishing lasting peace in Afghanistan is of utmost importance for ensuring stability and development in the region,” said Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade as he addressed the two-day “International Ulema Conference on Peace and Security in Afghanistan” which took place in Jeddah and Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

Co-organized by the Afghan government and the Organization of Islamic Co-operation (OIC), the event brought together more than 150 religious scholars from Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Egypt and other Muslim countries, including representatives of ethnic minorities, religious and political groups living in Afghanistan. The conference was aimed at supporting peace efforts in Afghanistan and condemning terrorism and violent extremism in all forms.

Addressing the conference, head of the Azerbaijani delegation, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade emphasized that Afghanistan enjoys rich natural resources with geo-strategic and geographical locations, and that establishing peace and stability in the region is vital for ensuring geopolitical stability and development in the region.

On the second day of the conference, King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz and Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Mecca received the heads of delegations in Jeddah. King of Saudi Arabia Salman Bin Abdulaziz asked Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade to convey his warm greetings to President Ilham Aliyev and hailed relations between the two countries. Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade also extended President Ilham Aliyev’s greetings to King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz. He praised the continuous support of Saudi Arabia to Azerbaijan on settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

During the meeting, Sheikulislam Allahshukur Pashazade was accompanied by Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Saudi Arabia Shahin Abdullayev.

The conference ended up with the signing of the final declaration.
