Week of combating human trafficking kicked off in Azerbaijan

A week of combat against human trafficking kicked off in Azerbaijan on May 5th. A number of countries and international organizations joined the action initiated by the OSCE Office in Baku. The campaign is co-organized by the OSCE Office in Baku, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Azerbaijan Migration Center, Pure World public union, International Migration Organization and International Labor Organization and will last till May 16th. As part of the campaign, special programs on combating human trafficking will be broadcasted on TV and radio stations, debates will be organized as well as booklets and posters will be distributed. Moreover, roundtables on fighting human trafficking and concerts are also to be organized. Deputy Head of the OSCE Office in Baku Melissa Stone said that the campaign is aimed at mobilizing all efforts of the Azerbaijani government and its partners for combat against human trafficking and raising public awareness. Note that the OSCE Office in Baku along with its partners supported similar campaign held in Baku in 2010. The hot line established at the end of the last year campaign received 500 appeals.
