WB supports development of agriculture in Azerbaijan

The sustainable socio-economic development constantly heightens interest of international financial institutions, including the World Bank in Azerbaijan. The bank will support implementation of another project on assistance to development of agriculture these days.This project to be funded by the World Bank envisages renovation of farm irrigation structures and drains. The project to be implemented in 15 regions will cover a crop area of 85 thousand hectares. It’s the second project implemented between the World Bank and the Azerbaijan government. Earlier, farm drains in 11 regions had been reconstructed as part of cooperation between the World Bank and the Melioration and Water Economy OJSC. According to Akif Mustafayev, Director of the working group on implementation of the project dealing with renovation of farm irrigation structures and drains, at phase one, 22 new irrigation and drainage systems were put into service in the territory of Water Users Union in the republic. At the same time Water Users Union were rendered technical assistance. These actions also had a direct impact on fecundity. Economic income in the regions where the projects have been realized has increased by 32%, while financial income 28%. Such an economic indicator is considered a quite successful figure for present. That’s why to make these achievements sustainable cooperation with the World Bank is continued in a new plain.
