The 9th meeting of Azerbaijan-Ukraine intergovernmental commission has been held in Baku. The event participants first arrived at the Alley to Honor to put a wreath at the tomb of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and paid tribute to his memory. Renowned ophthalmologist, Academician Zarifa Aliyeva’s honor was also commemorated . The Ukrainian guests then visited the Alley of Martyrs where lie those who fell for Azerbaijan’s freedom and territorial integrity and laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame monument. Then, the guests enjoyed the view of capital Baku. The 9th meeting of Azerbaijan-Ukraine intergovernmental commission for economic issues followed. Co-chairs of the commission – First Vice-Premier of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov and First Vice-Prime Minister of Ukraine Andriy Klyuyev briefed the attendees on the achievements gained since the last meeting held in Kiev in October, 2010. First Vice-Premier Yagub Eyyubov, speaking of the present state of the Azerbaijani economy, said the trade turnover between the two countries had doubled reaching 1.4 billion USD. Saying it was a positive indicator, the co-chair of the commission noted that the trade turnover between Ukraine and Azerbaijan ranked 6th in the world and 2nd in the CIS. It was stressed that over the past period the volume of goods exported from Azerbaijan to Ukraine has grown 4.8% reaching 900 million USD. He said the income from trade operations in January-February of 2011 was 1.5 times more as compared with the same period of last year, making up 290 million USD. First Vice-Prime Minister of Ukraine Andriy Klyuyev in turn briefed the meeting attendees on the economy of his country and stressed the importance of taking trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Ukraine onto a strategic level. He said it was possible to increase the trade turnover between the two countries up to 2 billion USD. During the meeting government officials of both countries exchanged views on the future tasks. At the end of the event the final protocol of the meeting consisting of 8 items was signed. The document was signed by First Vice-Premier of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov and First Vice-Prime Minister of Ukraine Andriy Klyuyev.
