1st session of World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue held

 The 1st session on intercultural understanding and cultural diversity to achieve peace and development has been held within the framework of the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku.

Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev welcomed the guests. Highlighting the significance of the forum, he said intercultural understanding and cultural diversity were of importance for peace and development. The Minister drew attention to Azerbaijan’s activity in this field. He then announced the program of the session. Co-chair of the session, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov In his speech, Mammadyarov spoke about the importance of the forum for the contemporary world. He mentioned projects implemented in the fields of cultural diversity and understanding, stressing topicality of the theme. The other co-chair Senior Advisor of the Strategic Development and Partnerships, United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Jean Christophe said today language, religion and culture had become a great factor in contemporary world, noting that migration caused big changes in societies. The other speakers shared their views on the topic. Different variation and outcomes were discussed afterwards. A number of meetings have been held within the framework of the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue. At a meeting between Czech Minister of Culture Irji Besser and Minister Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev the sides highlighted the significance of holding such a grandiose event in Baku. A detailed exchange of views was made on the issues of mutual interest.
