The fourth Azerbaijani-Greek business forum was held in Baku

The fourth Azerbaijani-Greek business forum was held in Baku on 6  april. Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Karolos Papoulias of Greece joined the forum. Opening the business forum that brought together about 250 businessmen from two countries President Ilham Aliyev said that the official visit of Greek President Karolos Papoulias to Azerbaijan was successful, stressing that the talks held and the documents signed would give an impulse to further broadening of the relations between the two countries. Saying that the political relations between Azerbaijan and Greece reached a top level and reciprocal visits of the heads of state was a shining example of the said, President Ilham Aliyev said there was big potential to deepen economic ties as well. The head of state noted fruitful activity of the intergovernmental commission in this regard. President Ilham Aliyev shared his views on existing potential to diversify the economic relations between the two countries. President Ilham Aliyev said our countries had successful cooperation in oil and gas sector, Azerbaijan had been exporting gas to Greece since 2007 and based on the memorandum signed within the frame of Greek President Karolos Papoulias’ visit to Azerbaijan the volume of the gas exported to Greece would be increased. Stressing that over the past period Azerbaijan and Greece had proved an image of reliable partners with coinciding interests, the head of state expressed assurance that the countries would work efficiently to diversify the economic cooperation. President Ilham Aliyev noted that new investments would be made in Azerbaijan’s gas sector with 2.2 trillion cubic meters of proven reserves of natural gas and urged Greek businessmen to increase investments in Azerbaijan’s economy. Stating that Azerbaijan’s state and private economic institutions expanded capital investments in foreign markets as per the state policy, President Ilham Aliyev urged businessmen from both countries to make mutual investments. The head of state expressed assurance that Karolos Papoulias’ official visit to Azerbaijan would strengthen positive trends on expansion of the relations political, economic, cultural and other fields between the two countries. 

Greek President Karolos Papoulias described this event as an example of high level of economic relations between our countries and stressed that cooperation between Greece and Azerbaijan holding a top position in the South Caucasus in various fields had great potential. Karolos Papoulias noted that the foundation of the cooperation existing between the two countries’ business circles was laid during President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Athens in 2009. Following the Greece-Azerbaijan business forum arranged as part of that visit, the relations between the business circles of both countries expanded, new opportunities were opened for economic-commercial cooperation. The Greek President praised the relations existing between the two countries in energy sector. Then, he talked of the aftereffects the global recession caused in his country and the measures taken to eliminate them. Karolos Papoulias expressed assurance that the business circles of Azerbaijan would heighten interest in Greek markets and thus economic and trade relations between the two countries would broaden even more. After the forum was over, President Ilham Aliyev and the Greek leader toured the Seafront Park where the Baku Business Center is located. Karolos Papoulias, who was watched the view of the capital, was briefed on the reconstruction and building actions implemented in Azerbaijan’s capital.
