June 17 is marked as the professional holiday of Azerbaijani medical employees.

It is noteworthy that the Health Ministry was established by the order of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic dating back to June 17, 1918. The first Health Minister was Khudadat bay Rafibayov who graduated from Kharkiv University in 1903 and a surgeon by profession. In accordance with the order of national leader Heydar Aliyev dating back to June 4, 2001, June 17 is marked as the Day of Medical Employees.
