President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva took part on December 6th in the tree-planting campaign in Shamakhi district.

It was noted that within the framework of the tree-planting campaign on the occasion of the 650th anniversary of great Azerbaijani poet Imadaddin Nasimi, 650, 000 trees of 37 kinds are set to be planted in 83 cities and regions. All the trees have been grown on seedling farms of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.

In connection with the campaign, the electronic map of the areas, where trees would be planted, has been prepared by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. Relevant preparation works have been carried out in the areas by city and district authorities. The drip irrigation system and irrigation canals will be used in the cultivation of the planted trees.

It was emphasized that up to 50, 000 trees will be planted in Shamakhi district during the tree-planting campaign. Some 5, 000 trees have been planted during the campaign carried out in the area at the entrance to Shamakhi city.

According to the terrain of this area, mainly thuja and Eldar pines have been planted here. The trees planted here will form “Nasimi 650”. About 300 Shamakhi residents, young people and volunteers, as well as members of the IDEA Public Union and the Regional Development Public Union of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation participated in the campaign.

President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva also planted trees.
