Dissolution of Parliament in line with Constitution – Court rules

A session of the Plenum of the Constitutional Court has been held. The Azerbaijani President’s request regarding whether or not the dissolution of Milli Majlis was in line with the Constitution has been reviewed.

Opening the session, chairman of the Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev announced the compound of the Plenum and provided information about the issues on the agenda. Then, Farhad Abdullayev gave the word to the rapporteurs-judges.   

Representative of the plaintiff - head of the Legislation and Legal Policy Department of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Gunduz Karimov and representatives of the defendant - chairman of the Legal Policy and State Building Committee of Milli Majlis Ali Huseynli, head of Milli Majlis Apparatus Safa Mirzayev, associate professor of the Constitutional Law Department of the Law Faculty of Baku State University, doctor of legal sciences Nasib Shukurov participated in the session. 

After the speeches, the Plenum of the Constitutional Court went to a consultation.

The decision on whether the issue on the dissolution of parliament was in line with the Constitution or not was made.

It was noted in the decision of the Plenum of the Constitutional Court that the incumbent parliament will keep its powers until a new parliament is formed.
