Azerbaijan’s Press Council has applied to Russia’s Journalists Union in connection with the pressure special correspondent of Azerbaijan Television in Russia Zakir Musayev was subjected to while fulfilling his professional duty in Armavir city of Russia’s Krasnodar province.

It is noted in the appeal that the installation of the memorial plaque to Armenian terrorist Garegin Nzhde, who fought against the Soviet Union in the legion of Nazi Germany during the Great Patriotic War, caused reasonable dissatisfaction of the local public. The reportage Zakir Musayev prepared last month in connection with the issue was broadcast on Azerbaijan Television. “As a result of the harsh protest, the mentioned plaque was dismantled. While Zakir Musayev was again making a reportage in connection with this, approximately 50 Armenians surrounded him, broke the camera of the crew and attempted to take the journalist’s computer away from him. The aggressive group also ignored the warning of the police,” cites the appeal.

It is also highlighted in the appeal that this incident aimed at violating freedom of speech and expression and prevention of a journalist from fulfilling his professional duty has caused outrage and regret of the Azerbaijani society, as well as the media public: “Giving a reasonable assessment to the incident within law is important and necessary for preventing the repetition of similar cases in the future. We are confident that the Russian Journalists Union, which is one of the leading media institutions of not only Russia, but also the world, will not spare efforts for taking adequate legal measures on the incident. We kindly ask you to render relevant assiatnce in connection with this”.
