On November 19th, 10 parrots were released in a park located at Ataturk avenue with the participation of vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union Leyla Aliyeva.

AZTV.AZ reports that Psittacula krameri parrots settled in the park within the framework of the IDEA’s “Urban Ecology” project are the kind of parrots that can live and reproduce in the climate conditions of Baku city.

The goal of the “Urban Ecology” project is to enrich Baku and its suburbs with animals and birds that can live and reproduce in the city conditions and take consistent steps for their preservation and protection.

As known, along with large-scale efforts to preserve and protect wildlife, at the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, wide events are held to protect kinds of animals and birds belonging to the city environment. The IDEA Animal Care Center operates in Baku for the protection of animals; special houses for cats are set across the city, and other works are carried out.

The purpose of all these efforts is to create harmony between the city residents and environment and further strengthen more healthy relations.

It is noteworthy that squirrels and parrots were settled in Baku city before. They freely lived in parks among people. However, in the late 20th century, due to the existing ecological problems, the number of these kinds sharply decreased. In recent years, due to the broad renovation works, especially thanks to the IDEA Public Union, cases of illegal logging have decreased, and planting of numerous new trees has increased, and thus, favorable conditions have been created for the return of such kinds of animals and birds.
