Azerbaijan has won its first gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Paralympic Games.

Azerbaijani para-judoka Shahana Hajiyeva fighting in the 48 kg category has claimed victory by defeating French representative Sandrine Martinet. 

Earlier, Azerbaijani powerlifter Parvin Mammadov (49 kg) obtained a bronze medal.

36 Azerbaijani athletes will represent the country in 47 categories in 6 sports at Tokyo 2020. 24 of the athletes are men, and 12 are women.

The XVI Summer Paralympic Games will last until September 5.
