Netflix has shot a movie in Baku. 

The film "Leyla Majnun" shot by Netflix Indonesia in Baku tells the love story of Leyli and Majnun.

The trailer of the film has been released on the platform’s official YouTube channel. The scriptwriter and director of the film is Indonesian Monti Tisha. The film is based on great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi’s “Leyli and Majnun” poem.

In connection with the declaration of 2021 the Year of Nizami Ganjavi in Azerbaijan, some scenes of the film have been shot here. This film is Netflix’s first project in Azerbaijan.

The main characters of the film are Azerbaijani Samir and Indonesian Leyla. Young teacher Leyla comes to Baku for work on the eve of Valentine’s Day and falls in love with Samir here. However, their love faces obstacles.  

Acha Septriasa plays the role of Leyla and Reza Rahadian – Samir (Majnun). Azerbaijani actors have also taken part in the film.

The premiere of “Layla Majnun” will be held on February 11.
